AOL is now “Aol.”

I did not make these - AOL (sorry, Aol.) did.

This new logo has been the talk of the design world recently – something I now pay attention to since I am into that kind of stuff. Most designers don’t like the change for various reasons – but that’s not a surprise since most designers don’t like anything not created by either themselves or Apple (that was a friendly jab, but seriously, that’s how many of them are).

Anyway, here’s my contribution to the Aol. parody logo rage that’s all the big deal on the Interwebs now:

Not unlike the brilliant viral video that Microsoft did for Windows 7 Launch Parties, I think this might be a calculated plan on Aol.’s part because they planted the obviously bad logo schemes out there so people like me can make fun of it. More people are now talking about Aol. [<- that's their period, not mine] than have in a long time, just because they unveiled shitty logo set. From that point of view, it’s already mission accomplished. Now weather they still have a viable business is anyone with a dial-up modem’s guess, but that’s not for holySmith! to decide.

holyMetro Grill!

holySmith! The Fans (Clark, Colleen and Rex) treated holySmith! The Family to a rather fantastic dinner this week at the prestigious Metropolitan Grill in Springfield, MO. You’d never guess that Springfield (home of the Simpsons, Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Boats, and O’Reilly Automotive) would have such a kick-ass place to fine dine, but all holySmith! can say is . . .

WOW.

I ordered the 7-oz. fillet. Our waiter handed me a steak knife and said, “I’m going to give this to you, but you probably won’t need it since you can use your butter knife to cut it,” to which I replied, “OK, let’s put that to the test.”

But instead of using the better knife to cut my steak, I used my fork. And it cut through the steak like it was hot butter. It was awesome. Everything about it was awesome. Perfect steak.

This is the spinach appetizer. It kicks new levels of culinary ass.

They also have this spinach appetizer which is prepared in such a way that it is light and flaky, and it literally melts in your mouth. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen or tasted – again, awesome.

Don’t even get me started about desert. I had the turtle cheesecake, which is to cheesecake what Phoebe Cates coming out of the pool in her red bikini in Fast Times at Ridgemont High is to full-frontal nude scenes. Seriously. It’s that good.

holySmith! The Wife confirmed that the wine selections were top-notch and that combined with the fact that we had a private room and specially prepared gourmet mac-and-cheese with chicken for holySmith! The Boy and holySmith! The Niece made for an incredible evening from start to finish.

holySmith! special thanks to Clark, Colleen and Rex – seriously you guys – we had a lot of fun and we’re glad we finally got to meet you after all these years! Hope to see you again sometime soon!

If you haven’t heard about Microsoft Surface, it is basically a really neat thing that looks like either a coffee table or an old Pac-Man sit-down arcade screen.

You have to watch the promo videos to appreciate all the cool shit this thing can (could) do, like when you set your smartphone down on it, it recognizes it and enables you to transfer files, music, pictures, etc. It would allow you to sync your portable music device with new tunes, or share tunes with someone who has another device, just by setting the devices on the . . . wait for it . . . Surface.

But the biggest thing I want to know is this: Will this bagillion dollar gadget Xerox your butt and send that (extremely disturbing and brutally detailed) image to your friends?

‘Cause if it does, sign me up. I can totally think of some folks who I’d like to e-moon (full choad) right now.
