Where were you when the Great Iced Tea Incident of 2010 went down?

The cashiers at QT execute multiple checkouts with military precision.

But the well was dry.

Another lady said, “Yep, it’s empty, but I think they’re making more.”

Another woman was all like, “What? No unsweetened iced tea?”

“But I don’t want any pop,” says Chad , like an Iowan.

“Ugh, really?” said holySmith!.

At that point, the panic started to set in for us. It was like we weren’t going to have our iced tea for the day. The sense of loss was really starting to swell up inside me, almost to the point of tears. So, in order to help cope with the devastation, we resorted to humor.

Chad was like, “well I guess the price of iced tea’s going to skyrocket now.”

And holySmith! was all, “Yep, now that it’s in demand here at the QT, iced tea’s going to start going for $100 per barrel and we’re going to be paying out the backside for it.”

Then some other people said stuff.

The Iced Tea that almost never was.

And as we walked back out to our shaded parking spot, next to the gas pump, we all reflected on the trials and tribulations that we experienced that day at the QT.

Take time today to reflect on where you were. And never forget the almost tragedy that was the Great Iced Tea Incident of 2010.

Yesterday, the St. Louis Cardinals all but handed the NL Central title to those lingering farts known as the Cincinnati Reds. I can’t even remember the last time I met or heard from a Reds fan — oh, wait, that’s because there haven’t been any Reds fans seen in the wild since Eric Davis was hitting shots out of the Astro-turfed confines of Riverfront Stadium. Now, suddenly, there are Reds fans coming out of the woodwork.

I am pretty sure that when the Cardinals play the Cubs here in a week or so, it will mark the first time that two teams will actually find a way to lose to each other in the same game.

Yet I remain painfully optimistic until they play the last game of the year. There is nothing worse than this feeling right now if you’re a real Cardinals fan. Tomorrow is September and we’re basically done, barring any miraculous winning streaks combined with an utter collapse from the Reds simultaneously.

Now August 2010 is in the books. I thought we had it in the bag, but here we are, reduced to Cubs fans.

It’s just not right.

Apple Store @ Biltmore

The ants swarmed around each little crumb, devouring it, bit by bit. It was a scene of natural beauty and utter creepiness. I looked left: ants. I looked right: ants.

Then one of the ants talked.

He said, “Welcome to the Apple Store!”

I was like, “Yes,” and I tried to avoid eye contact for fear of a sales pitch or worse, that he’d ask me to crack open my over-the-shoulder case. . .the one which holds the Windows 7-based Sony Vaio F series with the Intel Core i7 processor and stunning, full 1080p/BlueRay playing laptop beast I have.

That might have been weird.

So I made a quick round, avoiding the ants and pretending to care about individual items for a second, just so I could get a look at the fanboy/fangirls-that-look-like-fanboys-fest that was unfolding before my eyes. It wasn’t all lame. I managed to find an un-drooled-upon iPad and gave it a few quick pokes. It’s kinda neat, but nothing that ignites my passion to want to wait in line or spend money for it right now.

Sensing that ants were coming my way again, I quickly illuminated the screen of my WinMo-variety smart phone that also plays music, has a touch screen, connects seamlessly with Exchange and whatever else I want it to AND that makes phone calls, is on a 4G network AND AND AND has an interchangeable battery, just to check the time, which of course is displayed in a minimalist yet unique font with subtle accents, only to find that it was time for my meeting.

I made for the exit and my quick trip to the Apple Store was complete.

I wanted to preserve this epic battle on the blog. It took place a few days ago via Facebook, but it seems there is a correlation between the six people I know who don’t use Facebook still and the six people who read holySmith!

Hmm.

Anyway. This battle started when I posted this video from YouTube. I had a song stuck in my head which happened to be “Baker Street” by Gerry Rafferty. For this, I blame my mother’s radio listening habits during my childhood.

holySmith! Note on the link above: It’s funny that the same song which was stuck in my head on January 23, 2007 was the same song that started this battle on Facebook. Cosmic.

“I’ve had this song in my head. . .so now it can be in yours, too.”

This was the shot that started the war. Soon, my friend and office mate, Todd, chimed in and eventually, my neighbor, Nick threw down. It wasn’t long before another friend/office mate, Jeley, was also in the fray. Below is the complete comment thread.
